What is a freeroll in poker?

A Freeroll is a poker tournament with no buy-in but with real prizes. You play free, and everything you win is net profit.

Are freerolls really free?

Yes. Some are open to all; others require a "ticket" you earn through play, promotions, or initial registration. No out-of-pocket payment.

Is it worth playing freerolls?

Usually yes — theoretical EV is positive (investment 0). But your time has value. A small $10 freeroll with 5000 players lasting 6 hours — less worthwhile.

How do you win a freeroll?

Play Tight in early stages while others bust, switch to standard play at the bubble, and exploit the inexperience of most opponents.

What is a Freeroll

Freeroll = Free-Roll — a tournament with $0 buy-in (or symbolic, usually a Freeroll Ticket). Prizes typically $10-$1000, sometimes more.

Difference from a regular tournament: theoretical EV is automatically positive (investment = 0), so anything you make is net profit.

Why operators offer freerolls

New player acquisition: First taste of the system risk-free.
Retention: Incentive for regular players.
Promotion: Sales or event push.
Marketing: Free Freeroll = leads and registrations.

Freeroll strategy — different from regular tournaments

Critical insight: in a freeroll, other players play loose and All-in happy. They have nothing to lose. That changes everything.

Early — Tight: Don\'t take unnecessary Coin-Flips. Let half the table bust.
Mid — Value Heavy: Strong hands invite All-ins. Bluffs are pointless.
Bubble: Becomes a regular tournament. ICM kicks in.
Final Table: Standard play by stacks.
