Sunday Majors — Choosing and Surviving the Weekly Big Events

Sunday is the busiest day in online poker. The largest guaranteed tournaments of the week run within a few hours of each other, fields are at their softest because recreational players are off work, and the day rewards preparation more than any other. It also punishes players who register everything at once.

    • Sunday fields are the softest and the largest of the week
    • Registering too many events at once destroys decision quality
    • Late registration is usually correct in deep-structure majors
    • Expect an eight-plus hour session if you run deep
    • A fixed stop-loss for the day prevents the classic Sunday spiral

How to build a Sunday schedule

Pick a number of simultaneous tables you can genuinely play well — for most players that is fewer than they think — and stagger start times so events do not all reach their critical stages together. The goal is to be deep in a few events with full attention, not shallow in many.

Weight the schedule towards structures that suit you. Deep-stack events reward post-flop skill; turbos reward push-fold accuracy and endurance. Playing the format you are strongest in on the softest day of the week is the simplest edge available.

    Bankroll rules for big fields

Big-field tournaments have brutal variance: long stretches without a cash are normal even for winning players. A conservative rule is a small percentage of bankroll per entry, counting re-entries as separate entries, and no exceptions on days you are running badly.

Set a total spend for the day before the first event and stop there. The most expensive Sunday is the one where a player who is stuck registers three extra events at 11pm to get even.

Late registration and the deep run

In deep-structure majors, registering late is often correct: you skip the shallowest-value early levels and enter with information about the field. In turbos it is usually wrong, because a short stack with a fast clock has no room to play.

If you do run deep, protect the session. Take real breaks, eat before hour six, and decide in advance what you will do about the final table if it runs past your limit. Fatigue costs more equity late than any single strategic error.
