Online platforms award packages to live poker festivals: the tournament entry, usually accommodation, sometimes travel and expenses. They are the most exciting prize in online poker and the one most frequently misunderstood, because the package is rarely the total cost of the trip.

Read the package terms as a list, not a headline. Common inclusions are the tournament buy-in and a fixed number of hotel nights. Common exclusions are flights, food, transfers and any re-entry. A package can be genuinely excellent and still require real money from you.
Check whether the seat is transferable or convertible to cash. Many are neither, which matters if the dates do not work — a package you cannot attend is worth nothing.
Most packages are won through step satellites. Set a budget for the qualification attempt itself, because it is entirely possible to spend more chasing a package than the package is worth. Track what you spend across all attempts, not per attempt.
Satellite strategy applies fully here: survival over accumulation, and folding far more than instinct suggests near the bubble.
Live poker is far slower — perhaps a third of the hands per hour — and the day is much longer. Patience is a bigger factor than at any online table. Arrive rested, and treat the first level as a period for gathering information rather than creating action.
Practise the mechanics before you go: handling chips, announcing actions clearly, protecting your cards. Nothing marks a first-timer faster than fumbling procedure, and confident mechanics let you concentrate on decisions instead.
